"Artist Statements" can at times be somewhat of a ramble, but without them how would you know anything about the person that created the work before you.

My earliest memories are ones that involve some form of artistic expression. Twenty-five years ago I began to paint and create the occasional sculpture in order to express my creative side. Ever inquisitive, I experimented, working in oils, collage and other mediums, until I discovered the immediacy of acrylics. I combined this quick drying paint with other mixed medium techniques to arrive at my current style. Painting atop unstretched canvas, on the floor of my studio, gives me a relationship to the work that I was unable to achieve standing in front of a canvas mounted on an easel. I take the bulk of my inspiration from the human form in an effort to grasp the complexities of the human condition, and hopefully impart some of the joy I feel simply by being alive. Upon completion I affix each piece to conventional framing.

Close examination of a particular piece will reveal texture, handprints and even footprints that became part of the process of creation. Buried within many pieces are subtle snippets of newsprint, headlines and other social commentary that act as time-code elements to root the piece and act as a reference to its place in time. Inspired by the lives of my young nieces and nephew, my larger goal would be to foster greater kindness and understanding between human beings so that we all might be able to grow and thrive in a world free of pain and fear.

I find the act of painting akin to breathing, and while I continue to breathe I know I will always have a visceral response to the creative process and be at my happiest.
